About me

Peter Junior Royal, MA, MBACP

Hello. My name is Peter Junior Royal. I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor/psychotherapist and a registered British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) member.

I started my counselling journey in 2017 at the Lewisham Counselling and Counsellor Training Associates (LC&CT) and completed the Intermediate certificate in counselling skills and level 3 certificate in counselling studies. Once this was finished, I decided to undertake a three-year master’s course in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and later a certificate in Couples/Relationship Counselling.

I grew up in SE London, and I am from the British Jamaican diaspora. A big part of my journey has been about reducing inequality. So, I am a big advocate for communities that are impacted, including ethnic minorities, disabilities, sexuality, gender, religion, and class, to name a few. I am also quite passionate about men’s mental health, which inspired me to work for a charity called Survivors UK, which specialises in working with men, boys, trans and non-binary who were impacted by sexual trauma, sexual violence or rape. However, I work with a wide variety of clients worldwide and feel quite passionate about supporting my clients on their journey.

Outside work, I have become interested in travelling and learning about different cultures.

About

My approach to counselling & Therapy

How I work

My Approach

Therapy should create a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space for you to feel heard and understood while exploring past or present issues. As an integrative counsellor, I will draw upon different tools to help you feel empowered and for you to regain control of your life by finding your inner strength and resilience to overcome your difficulties. I am naturally empathic and will ensure that each session will be at your own pace, allowing you to process information, thoughts and feelings.

collaborative work (working together)

You and I will be required to work together to understand the presenting or reoccurring problems in your life, which will require a level of openness. It is important to acknowledge that you are the professional of your world and that I have the therapeutic tools. Together, we can work towards helping you to understand and challenge unhelpful or recurring patterns that may prevent you from moving forward.

Getting to Know Each Other

The therapeutic relationship is an essential element of our work together. It will help me understand your experiences and build trust, allowing you to feel comfortable in the process. To construct this therapeutic relationship, I may ask open questions about your present situation and, eventually, your past experience. Therefore, it will be essential for us to have weekly sessions at the beginning of our work together to develop the relationship within the therapeutic space.
